The congressmen’s absence was prompted by five blocks of relevant rejections from 81 deputies, among them the Liberals and members of the U Party.
In order to avoid irregularities, the representatives stated that they would leave the chamber until the Ethics Committee had processed the recusals, which left the session without the necessary quorum.
Referring to the void session, Interior Minister, Armando Benedetti, told the media that ‘the news is not that an article was not voted, it is that due to cheap filibustering, 50 objections were filed’.
Historical Pact’s Maria Fernanda Carrascal regretted the absence and wrote in her X account that “resorting to challenges and other ploys, they managed to delay the debate until we ran out of quorum.”
“Colleagues, we are paid to debate”, she exulted, adding that “this reform calls for us to live up to the country’s need. We will keep pushing forward”.
