Pakistan condemns Israel’s new punitive measures against Palestine

Islamabad, Mar 11 (Prensa Latina) Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif today strongly condemned Israel's suspension of humanitarian aid and energy services to the Palestinian territories.

In a publication on the X platform, the Pakistani head of government described as a repressive measure Tel Aviv’s move to cut off electricity to the Palestinians, which threatens the possibility of supply in the territories occupied by the Zionist government.

Similarly, he rejected Israel’s attitude of making it impossible for Palestinians to receive international aid such as food and medicine. “These repressive measures during the holy month of Ramadan are highly condemnable as they endanger the lives of millions of innocent Palestinians, including women and children,” Sharif pointed out.

Israel cut electricity to the Gaza Strip, home to more than two million people, as part of its U.S.-backed plan to force the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) to exchange prisoners, but without Tel Aviv committing to end the war, as the Palestinian militia insists.

Hamas denounced the punitive measure, recalling that the neighboring nation almost completely paralyzed energy supplies after the start of the conflict in October 2023.

The Gaza government’s media office explained that the only desalination plant operating in the coastal enclave is threatened as a result of the cut-off.

The structure, located in the city of Deir el-Balah, serves half a million people.

Al Jazeera explained that the plant continues to operate due to fuel reserves, but that these may run out at any time due to the closure of the border crossings, which prevents its supply.
