Belgium will continue to denounce aggression against the DRC

Kinshasa, Mar 13 (Prensa Latina) The new Belgian special envoy for the Great Lakes Region, Marc Pecsteen, affirmed that his country will continue to denounce the aggression against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The representative of the European nation addressed the issue during a meeting with the Congolese head of State, Felix Tshisekedi, at the City of the African Union.

Pecsteen, spoke with the president about the security situation in eastern DRC and the means to restore lasting peace there, the source said on his account on the social network X.

“Belgium has taken seriously the task of firmly and clearly denouncing the aggression of which the DRC is the victim. We do so because we are very attached to the principles of respect for international law, respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of each State,” he said.

He added that whether in Europe, Asia or Africa, the rules must be the same and apply to all.

The Belgian envoy also expressed satisfaction with the meeting in Luanda between President Tshisekedi and his Angolan counterpart João Lourenço, as he considered it very encouraging and important that the country is participating fully and constructively in the search for a peaceful solution.

“This also allows us to continue to put pressure on the other side to return to the negotiating table,” he said.

Belgium is one of the promoters of the European Union’s pronouncements against the presence of Rwandan troops in the DRC and has proposed the bloc to apply sanctions on Kigali.
