After the inauguration of the event, the Cuban leader participated in a joint meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in which high-level figures attending India’s flagship conference on geopolitics and geoeconomics were present.
Earlier, he spoke with Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Science and Technology, about the possibilities for expanding bilateral cooperation in the scientific and technological field, mainly in biotechnology.
Similarly, the Cuban Deputy Prime Minister and the Director General of the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), Amit Prothi, discussed opportunities to strengthen cooperation between the island and that organization.
Both highlighted opportunities to advance joint collaboration taking into account the Caribbean nation’s development in the sector, as well as CDRI’s programs and projects.
Martinez confirmed Cuba’s commitment to contribute to the coalition with accessible and scalable technology for early warning systems, adaptable risk management with resources ready to transfer knowledge in the recovery and management of coastal ecosystems.
He also expressed the willingness to contribute proven and validated community models, such as its Civil Defense system, recognized by the United Nations, which integrates science, government, communities in evacuation and recovery plans.
In this regard, he proposed the creation of a training network to replicate this approach that maintains citizen participation as a central axis.
The Cuban deputy prime minister noted the Caribbean nation’s willingness to collaborate with CDRI to strengthen regional research networks, such as the Caribbean Climate Forecast Center, to use resources and data.
Also, in prioritizing climate justice by ensuring that the nations most affected by disasters and least responsible for the crisis have access to technologies and funding without barriers.
