This forum, which is being held at the University of Havana, brings together nearly 400 participants from 47 countries, including Cuba, to analyze content and digital platforms as tools for social mobilization, political participation, and power configuration.
Until Wednesday, participants will attend keynote speeches, panels, and workshops to discuss the unprecedented possibilities of social interaction and exchange in a context marked by the rise of disinformation, hate speech, and several forms of manipulation.
Sponsored by the Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC) and in partnership with the Havana-based Casa de las Americas and the Hermanos Saiz Association (AHS), the Patria Colloquium offers communicators, academicians, politicians, activists, and interested citizens a space to reflect on the opportunities and challenges of techno-politics.
This event’s edition is dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the multi-state channel Telesur, founded by Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez, and the 40th anniversary of the Faculty of Communication of the University of Havana.
The Patria Colloquium has been held since 2022 in the context of Cuban Press Day. It pays tribute to the newspaper founded by Cuba’s National Hero, Jose Marti, in 1892 to spread libertarian ideas and unite the Cubans around the need for independence from the Spanish metropolis.
