European Commission fines Apple

Brussels, April 23 (Prensa Latina) The European Commission (EC) announced that it will fine Apple €500 million for violations of the new Digital Markets Act (DMA).

This measure will also be applied to Meta, with €200 million.

These are the first two cases Brussels has resolved with sanctions under the new legislation designed to prevent abuses by large technology companies, Europa Press explains.

The Vice President of the European Commission for a Clean, Fair, and Competitive Transition, Teresa Ribera, explained in a statement that Apple and Meta violated the DMA.

This occurred when these companies implemented measures that reinforce the dependence of businesses and consumers on their platforms.

As a result, the EC took firm but balanced measures to enforce the law against both firms, based on clear and predictable rules, the message insists.

New European Union (EU) rules would allow community services to impose fines of up to 10% of companies’ turnover.
