Putin affirms that Pope Francis always treated Russia kindly

Moscow, Apr 23 (Prensa Latina) President Vladimir Putin affirmed on Wednesday at a meeting with Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and Serbian Patriarch Porfiry that Pope Francis treated Russia kindly, possibly because of his Argentine origin.

The president stressed, “I repeatedly met with Pope Francis, and it was evident, and I can affirm it, that he treated Russia with kindness, but I also consider his Latin American origin, and the mood of the vast majority of the citizens of Latin American countries.”

The head of State added that His Holiness also probably felt and established benevolent relations.

Pope Francis, elected on March 13, 2013, after the abdication of Pope Benedict XVI (1927-2022), died on April 21, aged 88, of an ischemic stroke, coma, and irreversible heart failure.

The Vatican press office announced that Pope Francis’ funeral will be held on Saturday, April 26.
