The joint declaration includes cooperation diversification by aligning national strategies, including Kenya’s Economic Transformation Agenda and 2030 Vision, with Belt and Road projects. It also proposes progress in economic and infrastructure matters: China will support Kenya as a financial center in East Africa by establishing branches of Chinese financial institutions in Kenya.
The declaration establishes a framework for strengthening cultural and social exchanges, including a China-Kenya Cultural organization and the Tourism Year in 2025. The Education and vocational training will be promoted through program expansion, such as the Luban Workshops in Kenya.
Moreover, new cooperation mechanisms such as the issuance of panda bonds will be explored, and Chinese investment will be promoted in key sectors to foster Kenya’s industrialization and autonomous development.
The leaders held a meeting at the Great Hall of the People in Kenya, as part of the African dignitary’s state visit until April 26th.
Ruto expressed his support for Chinese initiatives such as the proposal for global development, global security, and global civilization, hailing his visit as a “resounding success” and thanking Xi Jinping for the warm reception.
Both sides agreed to reform the international system to ensure more equitable representation of developing countries, especially African ones, in organizations like the United Nations and its Security Council.
Both leaders agreed that the meeting marks a milestone in bilateral relations and will lay the foundation for future comprehensive cooperation between China and Africa.
