Among the decisions taken by the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) is the suspension, with immediate effect, of the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, negotiated and brokered by the World Bank for the common use of water available in the Indus River and its tributaries.
The Indian government, having ordered the closure of the Attari Integrated Check Post, indicated that those who have crossed with valid visas will be able to return via that route before May 1st. From now on, Pakistani citizens cannot travel to India through the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation’s Visa Waiver Scheme. Any such visa previously issued to Pakistani nationals will be deemed canceled, and those currently in India under this regime have 48 hours to return to Pakistan.
In addition, the Committee agreed to declare the Defense or Military, Naval, and Air Advisers to the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi persona non grata and asked them to leave India within a week. It also announced that India will withdraw its staff from Islamabad, consider these posts in the respective High Commissions abolished, and withdraw five support staff members from the Service Advisers from the respective missions, reducing their staff from 55 to 30 by May 1st.
The Cabinet Committee on Security meeting reviewed the general national security situation and ordered all forces to maintain strict vigilance. It also resolved that the perpetrators of the April 22nd Pahalgam attack be brought to justice and their sponsors held accountable.
The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) expressed sincere condolences to the victims’ families and wished the injured a speedy recovery. It condemned the attack in the strongest terms and gave gratitude for the expressions of support and solidarity from numerous governments around the world.
