According to a press release issued by the Angolan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two senior officials also reviewed the implementation of the Roadmap for the Joint Summit of the Central African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), held in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.
“The two leaders discussed the Luanda and Nairobi processes related to peace in eastern DRC, addressed the issue of humanitarian assistance, and discussed joint efforts to cease hostilities and establish a definitive ceasefire,” the statement explains.
The situation in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo has been characterized, particularly in recent months, by political instability and armed clashes between government forces and armed irregulars of the M23, allegedly supported materially by Rwanda.
Faure Gnassingbé, President of Togo, was recently appointed African Union (AU) mediator for the conflict between the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Rwanda.
António’s current visit to Lomé includes a working meeting with Gnassingbé.
