Bolivia proposes VP Choquehuanca for UN top position

La Paz, Apr 25 (Prensa Latina) Bolivia's Vice President David Choquehuanca was included this Friday as a possible indigenous candidate for the position of Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) after his nomination in New York by this nation’s Unity Pact.

A release delivered to Prensa Latina by the Vice-Presidency of the State assures that the proposal, representing 36 indigenous-originating-peasant nations of Bolivia, took place in the context of the Sessions of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues.

“We bring as a candidate for secretary general our brother David Choquehuanca, who is currently our vice president of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, so that he can assume the position (…)”, Justo Molina, president of the Confederation of Indigenous Peoples of Bolivia (CIDOB), said, according to the institutional release.

Lucio Quispe, executive secretary of the Single Trade Union Confederation of Peasant Workers of Bolivia (CSUTCB), requested United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues change its name to Permanent Forum of Indigenous Peoples.”

Quispe also requested that the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) convene the Mother Earth Assembly annually and a Mother Earth Summit in 2030.

Meanwhile, Guillermina Kuno, executive secretary of the Bartolina Sisa National Confederation of Indigenous Native Peasant Women of Bolivia, requested international support for including the Voice of the Permanent Forum in the international critical review of the coca leaf.
