The devastating 7,7 magnitude earthquake killed more than 3,800 people, injured at least 5,100 and displaced more than 200,000.
According to the Deputy Director General of the Department of Disease Control, Dr. Anek Mungaomklang, a 30-member team, composed of health workers, a coordinator from the World Health Organization and volunteers from the Ruam Katanyu Foundation, will provide assistance in Myanmar until May 2.
The brigade’s mission in the neighboring country is to intensify communicable disease surveillance and improve shelter and water management systems in earthquake-affected areas, he said.
Thailand also pledged to install a water filtration system, which is capable of producing at least 600 liters of potable water per hour and has low maintenance costs in order to support thousands of people still in temporary shelters.
