Several Cuban companies and dancers commemorate the date and celebrate a universal force, inviting them to embrace the pleasure and harmony that springs from their bodies.
At the initiative of the International Dance Committee in 1982, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) proclaimed April 29 as this holiday, commemorating the birthday of outstanding French dancer Jean-Georges Noverre, considered the creator of modern ballet.
Numerous performances and shows globally honor this manifestation today.
The celebration aims to honor dance as a universal and diverse art discipline, bringing together those who have chosen this expression without cultural, political, and ethical barriers.
As brilliant Spanish dancer and choreographer Antonio Gades would say: “Dance is nothing more than the reflection of what our body turns into art.”
