According to journalist Jamil Chade, columnist for the UOL website in New York, decades after playing a leading role in the creation of the State of Israel, the South American nation “has become one of the leaders in the work to examine the Palestinian question”.
Also under the principle that there will only be peace with the existence of two States and internationally recognized, secure and economically viable borders.
The invitation to Brazil came from France and Saudi Arabia, countries that plan to hold an international conference in July to mark the international recognition of Palestine.
In 1947, Brazilian diplomat Oswaldo Aranha was instrumental in the passage of Resolution 181 at the UN, laying the groundwork for the creation of the State of Israel.
A year later, Aranha was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize and streets and squares in Israel were named after him.
Now, “Brazil has been given the task of leading the Working Group on Promoting Respect for International Law for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution”, states the report in UOL.
Chade says that the destruction of the Gaza Strip and the offensive by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump on the occupied territories have created a movement to try to protect Palestine before it is too late and a state becomes unviable.
The idea is that, by no later than the middle of the year, a summit will declare Palestine a sovereign and independent state, opening the door to its entry into the UN.

Brasilia, 19 may (Prensa Latina) El Gobierno de Brasil encabeza hoy un grupo de trabajo en Naciones Unidas que procurará establecer las bases jurídicas para la creación del Estado de Palestina y su reconocimiento por la comunidad internacional.
Según el periodista Jamil Chade, columnista del portal UOL en Nueva York, décadas después de desempeñar un papel protagónico en la creación del Estado de Israel, el gigante sudamericano “se ha convertido en uno de los líderes en los trabajos para examinar la cuestión palestina”.
También bajo el principio de que solo habrá paz con la existencia de dos Estados y fronteras internacionalmente reconocidas, seguras y económicamente viables.
La invitación a Brasil vino de Francia y Arabia Saudita, países que planean realizar una conferencia internacional en julio para marcar el reconocimiento internacional de Palestina.
