The latter for a renewed partnership, adopted at the 6th AU-EU Summit in 2022.
Wednesday’s meeting paves the way for the 7th AU-EU Summit scheduled for late 2025 in Africa, which will commemorate 25 years of partnership, a statement from the African continental organization stressed.
The ministerial meeting marks a crucial moment to assess and reinvigorate the partnership between the two continents, aligned with both the AU’s Agenda 2063 development framework and EU priorities.
The text underscored that with Africa’s recent accession to the Group of Twenty (G20) and developments in the global multilateral system, it also offers a unique opportunity to move from high-level commitments to implementation.
Discussions are based on four key pillars: a prosperous and sustainable agenda for Africa and Europe; renewed and strengthened cooperation on peace, security, and governance; a reinforced and reciprocal partnership for migration and mobility; and a stronger commitment to multilateralism.
Earlier, African and European officials reviewed the foreign ministers’ documents, including the draft agenda of the 3rd AU-EU ministerial meeting and the draft joint statement.
