We worked to complete the procedures for a 400 megawatt line that will connect Türkiye with Syria, Al-Bashir expressed in a press conference after the end of their talks in Damascus.

He clarified that the electricity interconnection between Syria and Türkiye will be operational by the end of this year.

In turn, Bayraktar stated that since last December, Syria has been working on reconstruction in all sectors, focusing its efforts on the energy sector.

We will supply our neighbor to the south with six million cubic meters of gas per day, and we will provide it with one thousand megawatts of electricity, he revealed.

The Turkish Minister’s visit to Damascus comes as part of a series of official meetings between the two sides.

A number of delegations from Ankara visited Damascus recently, including the ministers of trade, transport, foreign affairs and defense, in addition to the director of intelligence.

Turkish Trade Minister Ömer Bolat visited Damascus last April, leading a government and economic delegation, where he discussed trade, transport, customs and investment issues with his Syrian counterparts.

These diplomatic gestures reflect a mutual desire between the two sides to open a new chapter in relations based on strengthening economic and security cooperation and overcoming past disagreements.
