According to the statement, the launch was carried out as part of routine combat exercises, which included the firing of a Kalibr cruise missile at a target located at the Chizha test site in the Arkhangelsk region, more than 600 kilometers from the Barents Sea.
The report indicates that, according to objective control data, the launch was successful and all technical and flight parameters were confirmed.
The commander of the Northern Fleet, Vice Admiral Konstantin Kabantsov, praised the high level of professionalism of the submarine’s crew in preparing for and conducting the launch.
Last March, Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the nuclear submarine Arkhangelsk and spoke with the crew, while highlighting the potential of this type of vessel for Russia’s defense in the current circumstances.
The Arkhangelsk belongs to the series of nuclear attack submarines of the 885 Yasen and 885M Yasen-M projects, which feature torpedo tubes and vertical silos for Oniks and Kalibr supersonic cruise missiles, or Tsirkon hypersonic missiles.
In addition to the Arkhangelsk, the Russian Navy has five other Project 885/885M nuclear submarines: Perm, Severodvinsk, Kazan, Novosibirsk, and Krasnoyarsk.
