Evariste Ndayishimiye, President of Burundi and Chair of the ROM, visited Kinshasa on Sunday and met with his Congolese counterpart, Felix Tshisekedi, with whom he addressed the issue, a press release from the Presidency of the DRC reported.
Ndayishimiye and Tshisekedi reassessed the Addis Ababa Framework Agreement signed by 11 countries more than a decade ago, a few days before the ROM summit scheduled for May 28 in Kampala, Uganda.
The two presidents did not make any statements to reporters, but the Burundian Presidency specified that this trip was part of the consultations launched in preparation for the meeting, during which Ndayishimiye will hand over the reins of the ROM.
This 12-year mechanism aims to contribute to maintaining stability and promoting development in the region.
The Addis Ababa Framework Agreement was signed by 11 states and four international and regional institutions: the United Nations (UN), the African Union (AU), the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), and the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
