Dedicated to Cuba’s National Hero, Jose Marti, the event welcomes the presence of poets from the host country, China, the United States, the Netherlands, Serbia, Africa, and Latin America, including, among its many initiatives, the Meeting of Poets for Peace in Defense of Humanity at the National Library.
The event’s program will also feature a tribute to the Apostle of Cuban Independence at the Culture Ministry (MINCULT) this Monday, with the participation of historian and journalist Pedro Pablo Rodriguez, a profound scholar of Marti’s work, in addition to other activities in this capital’s several institutions.
Poet Alex Pausides, president of the event, said on national television that the Festival’s main venue is the Dulce Maria Loynaz Cultural Center, located in Havana’s neighborhood of Vedado. The Meeting of Poets for Peace in Defense of Humanity will be dedicated to Palestine and the struggle for peace.
Pausides stressed that the Festival has a popular vocation. This time, as in previous events, the poets will visit schools, communities, and the Scientific Pole institutions, including the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB), and the Finlay Institute of Vaccines (IFV), both in this capital.
