Maduro ascribes electoral win to the Venezuelan people

Caracas, May 26 (Prensa Latina) President Nicolas Maduro stressed that yesterday's victory in the regional and legislative elections came true thanks to the Venezuelan people, in which the Simon Bolivar Great Patriotic Pole took overwhelming control of governorships and the National Assembly (Parliament).

“I congratulate you all for your remarkable effort! After blockades, criminal sanctions, fascism, and violence, the Bolivarian Revolution has shown that it is stronger and more alive than ever,” the president wrote on his Telegram account.

The National Electoral Council announced in the early hours of Monday morning the victory of the Simon Bolivar Great Patriotic Pole in the 32nd election in the last 26 years, in which 24 governorships, 285 seats in Parliament, and 260 chairs in the state legislative councils were up for grabs.

With 93.01 percent of the votes counted and a turnout of 42.63 percent, the head of the National Electoral Council Carlos Quintero reported that the Great Patriotic Pole Alliance reached more than four million 553 480 votes, – 82.68 percent.

Its main opponent, the opposition Democratic Alliance, barely got 344,422 votes, for a 6.25 percent.

Likewise, of the 50 top legislators up for election to the National Assembly, the Great Patriotic Pole Alliance won 40 seats, while the opposition grabbed only six chairs.

In the governorships, the revolutionary and Chavista forces swept the country, controlling 23 of the 24 regions (95.83%) and seizing three of the four opposition-held states from the right: Barinas, Nueva Esparta, and Zulia.

Of the total states, 10 surpassed the 90 percent: Guayana Esequiba (97.4 percent); Apure (96.1 percent); Monagas (94.5 percent); Delta Amacuro (94.1 percent); Sucre (94.4 percent); Portuguesa (93.6 percent); Guarico (93.1 percent); Trujillo (91.8 percent); Lara (90.9 percent), and La Guaira (90.6 percent).
