Malaysia promotes inclusion and sustainability at 46th ASEAN summit

Kuala Lumpur, May 26 (Prensa Latina) The 46th Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), ongoing in Malaysia until may 27, attended by leaders and representatives from all member states and other guests, calls for the strengthening of regional cooperation, inclusion, and sustainability.

Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized these principles promoted by his country as the regional bloc’s president in 2025.

According to the head of state, the issues of inclusion and sustainability must be at the very heart of the agenda and vision of the ASEAN, an organization which also includes Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Brunei, and Myanmar.

He also expressed that the themes reflect our aspirations and our obligations. It is based on the conviction that ASEAN’s future must be built on the twin pillars of equitable and sustainable growth and lasting resilience.”

Anwar thanked all ASEAN leaders for their support in ensuring that Malaysia’s chairmanship advances the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, which will be launched today.

Heads of state and government present at the opening of the summit included the Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah; the President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto; the Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Manet; the Prime Minister of Laos, Sonexay Siphandone; the Prime Minister of Vietnam, Pham Minh Chinh; the President of the Philippines, Ferdinand Marcos Jr.; the Prime Minister of Singapore, Lawrence Wong; Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra of Thailand; and Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao of Timor-Leste, as an observer.

Opening the ASEAN Energy Transition Meeting, Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof emphasized that the region’s energy future must be based on unity, practical frameworks, and mutual benefits. “As ASEAN Chair in 2025, Malaysia is deeply committed to promoting dialogue, building consensus, and advancing regional frameworks to foster a cleaner, more secure, and more inclusive energy future,” he stated.
