In offering the results of the first official bulletin of the election day, Carlos Quintero, Vice President of the National Electoral Council (CNE), reported that the data corresponds to 93.01 percent of the polling stations transmitted by voting machines, for a turnout of 42.63%.
The official pointed out that for the deputy positions on the national list, the Simón Bolívar Great Patriotic Pole Alliance obtained 4,553,484 votes, representing 82.68 percent of the total, while the opposition Democratic Alliance obtained 344,422 votes, corresponding to 6.25 percent.
Quintero described Sunday’s election as a sovereign day, declaring that “the people spoke with their votes and the CNE fulfilled its responsibility and constitutional mandate,” and urged everyone to act “with responsibility and profound respect for the expressions of the Venezuelan people.”
The president of the Electoral Branch, Elvis Amoroso, conveyed his profound pride and thanked the CNE officials and the Bolivarian National Armed Forces, who were present at each of the venues where the people expressed themselves, for their hard work. He also congratulated the international observers who traveled to the country to oversee the elections and urged them to be spokespersons for the experiences in Venezuela.
President Nicolás Maduro and other officials led a victory celebration in Caracas’s Plaza Bolívar, as was the case in the rest of the country’s states.
This Sunday, 24 governors, 285 deputies to Parliament, and 260 to the state legislative councils were elected.
