Green Europe demands cessation of military agreement with Israel

Rome, May 27 (Prensa Latina) The Italian opposition Green Europe party demanded its government to cancel a military agreement with Israel, in force for two decades, given Israel's crimes against the Palestinian people, a statement noted on Tuesday.

This call, published on the political party’s official website, seeks to prevent the renewal of the Italy-Israel Memorandum on “exchange of technologies, patents, software, and classified information under military secrecy,” which expires on June 8.

Congressman Angelo Bonelli, leader of Green Europe, expressed, when announcing this initiative, that “continuing with this cooperation is tantamount to becoming an accomplice to the bombing of hospitals, schools, and refugee camps” in the Gaza Strip, where more than 53,000 people have been killed.

It is “an agreement never publicly discussed, never submitted to parliamentary debate,” and must cease “to avoid being accomplices of the massacre of the Palestinian people,” by “collaborating militarily with those who commit war crimes.”

Bonelli denounced that, although the United Nations has demanded that member states suspend all military relations with Israel, the Italian government “is about to buy G550 CAEW systems, sophisticated airplanes for military control and targeting” from that country.

Elly Schlein, president of the opposition Democratic Party (DP), expressed before Parliament on May 21 that “the international community and the Italian government must do everything possible to stop this massacre”, as well as “to work for a ceasefire and unblock humanitarian aid.”
