“Despite this, and with our limited resources, we have maintained and strengthened our cooperation programs in key sectors such as health, education, human capital development, science, technology, and disaster response,” stated Ambassador Daylenis Moreno.
Speaking at the 22nd session of the High-Level Committee on South-South Cooperation, Moreno, Cuba’s Alternate Permanent Representative to the United Nations, emphasized that this type of collaboration is a strategic tool for development.
The diplomat highlighted “the need of consolidating our alliances among countries of the South, based on solidarity, complementarity, and respect for national priorities,” which she described as essential at a time when multilateralism faces enormous challenges.
She denounced the US administration’s attacks on the medical cooperation that Cuba currently provides with more than 24,000 collaborators in 56 countries, an act she described as immoral on the part of the United States.
Cuba’s solidarity activities, she said, are fully consistent with the principles of South-South Cooperation. South-South cooperation and the international standards of the World Health Organization and the Pan American Health Organization.
“They are also based on intergovernmental agreements between Cuba and the host country, with full respect for the sovereignty and internal affairs of each country.
Therefore, the fierce offensive by the United States government against Cuban international cooperation is unacceptable,” the ambassador said.
