His collaborators said the meetings, taking place in an area controlled by the rebels of the Congo River Alliance – the March 23 Movement (AFC/M23), aim to gather the concerns and proposals of several sectors in response to the security challenges in eastern DRC.
Kabila expects to talk with politicians, administrators, security agents, Goma authorities, socio-cultural groups, religious leaders, women’s organizations, the Federal Electoral Commission (CEF), traditional chiefs, and community leaders.
At the end of these consultations, the former president plans to hold a press briefing in Goma.
Kabila arrived in Goma on Sunday in defiance of the Kinshasa Government and the Senate’s decision to remove his parliamentary immunity, which would allow prosecutions to be brought against him for alleged complicity with the Rwanda-backed AFC/M23.
