The popular consultation was announced by the President of Guyana, Irfaan Ali, who specified that the elections will be held on September 1.
Ali, when informing the date of the next elections, declared that he would soon also proclaim the dissolution of Parliament.
This step would comply with the constitutional requirements of Guyana, since the legislative apparatus must disappear three months before the celebration of the elections, the Associates Times website commented.
The Guyanese dignitary also announced that his government is building the infrastructure to transform the electric landscape.
This would ensure long-term energy security, improve competitiveness and build prosperity in every home and in the lives of every citizen.
“We are advancing our agenda for cleaner, renewable energy sources,” the president said.
Ali pledged to continue working to reduce the cost of electricity so that Guyanese households and businesses can enjoy the fact that they live in an energy-rich country.
