Hungarian Minister of European Union Affairs, Janos Boka, noted that after a meeting of the EU General Affairs Council, Hungary and Slovakia did not support the proposal to strengthen democracy in Europe, presented by Poland, which currently chairs the EU Council.
Boka explained that the European institutions and some EU member states misinterpret the sustainability of democracy.
In particular, the Hungarian minister pointed out that the document lacks a requirement for transparency in the funding of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), which often receive money from abroad and are used by several political forces for their purposes.
Hungary believes that the EU misinterprets the role of NGOs in a democratic society, Boka summed up.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto explained that in the last few years, the International Criminal Court (ICC) has become highly politicized and has been used by diverse states to achieve their objectives in international conflicts.
