Italy faces 70 percent increase in cyberthreats

Rome, May 28 (Prensa Latina) In Italy, cyber security incidents increased by 70.0 percent during 2024 and those of critical severity grew by 269.0 percentage points, a study says today.

The eighth edition of the Y Report on cyber threats, presented annually by the company Yarix Sicurezza Informatica, based in the city of Treviso, in the northern Veneto region, highlights that Italy already ranks fourth worldwide in data-hijacking cyber attacks, known as ransomware.

The analysis, published on the website of the specialized media Zeroventiquattro, specifies that the manufacturing sector remains the most affected in this country by these actions, with 12.5 percent of cyber-attacks, largely due to “production environments with obsolete devices and delocalized infrastructures”.

In the second place comes the Information Technology (IT) sector, with 11.8 percent of the total, as a result of “a high number of exposed services, subject to different types of vulnerabilities, and the sensitive nature of the data processed”.

From the Yarix Security Operations Center, which monitors cyber-attacks in real time, more than 485 thousand security events were detected last year, for an increase of 56.0 percent compared to 2023.
