The teachers are demanding a new Tenure Law to guarantee stability to those who have worked for years under temporary contracts, reduce work burden, and implement measures against violence in schools.
They are also asking for improvements in the teaching career with transparency in assessing and reinstating eliminated rights, strengthening the teacher’s role, and adjustments to the school calendar, among other demands.
All these requests are included in what they call the “short agenda” that, according to Mario Aguilar, president of the Teachers’ College, are issues that the Executive has the possibility of resolving because they do not imply great expense, but rather political will.
A march is planned on Thursday in Valparaiso to the National Congress headquarters, where about 20,000 people are expected to participate.
This will be the second educators’ rally after the one held on May 15, which included demonstrations in several cities and communes.
