Following the May 28th clash in the Chong Bok area, both nations agreed to use existing bilateral mechanisms to manage the conflict.
The Thai government expressed its desire to avoid losses on both sides and highlighted the positive results achieved through the Joint Boundary Committee in previous negotiations.
Thailand declared its readiness to resume the committee process on June 14th in Phnom Penh, and hopes that Cambodia will take a similar stance in favor of regional peace and stability.
For its part, Cambodia formally filed a complaint with the ICJ to resolve the dispute over four sensitive areas in the districts of Surin and Ubon Ratchathani, following the border clash in which a Cambodian soldier died.
According to the official statement, Thailand maintains that it has not recognized the ICJ’s jurisdiction since 1960.
