South Africa debates gender-based violence and femicide

Pretoria, Jun 13 (Prensa Latina) The South African Ministries of Justice and Constitutional Development and Social Development are co-sponsoring in this capital on Friday a round table discussion on combating Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF).

In response to that phenomenon, the South African government, through the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster (JCPS Cluster), established the 90-Day Accelerated Program on GBVF to accelerate efforts to eradicate such behaviors.

The roundtable discussion is part of the program, which is implemented through the National Joint Operational Structure and Intelligence Center (NatJoints), a ministerial statement noted.

The initiative convenes national leaders, Ministries, and civil society leaders to assess current deficiencies and define a clear and viable way to improve services and ensure justice for victims and survivors of gender-based violence and femicide.

It also aims to assess and strengthen the effectiveness and efficiency of preventive efforts and services provided to survivors and victims of gender-based violence.
