The regional integration bloc described the man born in Rosario, Argentina, on June 14, 1928, as “an icon of the Cuban Revolution and a symbol of resistance.”
It noted that Che showed, from an early age, a deep empathy for the oppressed and a strong criticism of social injustices, and his travels through Latin America led him to become a fervent defender of socialism.
He recalled that he joined the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, in 1955 in his struggle against the dictatorial regime of Fulgencio Batista in Cuba.
ALBA-TCP highlighted that he became a key figure and stood out not only for his bravery on the battlefield but also for his vision of a more equitable society.
The integration mechanism noted that “after the triumph of the Revolution in 1959, Che played several significant roles in the new Cuban Government, including that of Minister of Industry.”
