Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty spoke over the phone with US special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, and presidential advisor Massad Boulos about the situation in the region.
In his exchange with Witkoff, Abdelatty raised concerns about the consequences of the recent military confrontation between Israel and Iran, after warning that the continuation of the clash threatens the region, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry noted in a statement.
The diplomat called for de-escalation and renewed diplomatic efforts, including talks between Washington and Tehran on the latter’s nuclear program.
The foreign minister also spoke separately by telephone with his counterparts from Saudi Arabia, Faisal bin Farhan; Jordan, Ayman Safadi; and Bahrain, Abdullatif Al Zayani.
The implications of the ongoing attacks and the risk of a wider conflict were addressed in those contacts.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed the issue on Saturday.
