“Two million of our brothers and sisters in Gaza have been fighting for their lives for 21 months in conditions even worse than those of the Nazi concentration camps,” the president said in a speech during the 51st meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, held in Istanbul.
He explained, as quoted by the official Turkish news agency Anadolu, that more than 55,000 people have died in Israeli attacks on Gaza, of whom more than 65 percent were children and women.
Erdogan expressed Ankara’s solidarity with the pain and tragedy of the Palestinian people: “Let our Palestinian brothers and sisters know that, no matter how intense the darkness of injustice is today, justice will prevail and victory will inevitably belong to those who have faith in their just cause,” he emphasized.
The president denounced Israeli policies of occupation, theft, destruction, and massacres, and criticized Israel for continuing to drag the region into a state of instability, relying on the unconditional support of Western powers.
Regarding the Palestinian issue, Erdogan emphasized that achieving a two-state solution has become more urgent under the current circumstances.
“We must continue to encourage more countries to recognize the State of Palestine and continue coordinating our efforts to take coercive measures against Israel based on international law and the United Nations Charter,” he stated.
