A report from the University of Genoa, disclosed Friday on the website of the specialized publication Energy Italia News, refers that this initiative is being developed jointly in study centers and scientific institutions in Italy and France, for which it has a budget of 1,850,000 euros.
This study, called Valorization of Energy Produced by the Sea (Vague), is largely financed by the European Union (EU) Interreg cooperation program, and places the Mediterranean in the spotlight to test new advances in this area.
The Vague will run until February 28, 2028, and aims to accelerate the development of technologies for the production of electricity from waves and ocean currents in the Tyrrhenian Sea, with the generation of stable and sustainable wave energy with low environmental impact.
In developing these analyses “we worked with numerical models to simulate wave motion in the Upper Tyrrhenian Sea and identify the most productive sites” and “we also conducted physical tests in our wave channel as well as in the open sea,” explained Francesco De Leo, a researcher at the University of Genoa.
