Regarding the anniversary, the Cuban Embassy in Victoria delivered congratulatory messages from Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, the President of the National Assembly (Parliament), Esteban Lazo, and Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez to their Seychellois counterparts.

Cuba sends its most sincere congratulations to the government and people of Seychelles and wishes them prosperity and development, the Foreign Ministry’s statement expresses.

On June 29, 1976, the flag of Seychelles was raised for the first time in its history as a free and sovereign nation, a flag for which thousands of citizens fought until they achieved the desired and necessary independence from the British metropolis, he added.

Cuba and Seychelles officially established ties on April 12, 1978, based on friendship, solidarity, and cooperation.

In September 2024, both states signed a series of agreements for mutual assistance in the transfer of sanctioned persons and the enforcement of criminal sentences.

They also signed a memorandum of understanding on academic cooperation between the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tourism of Seychelles.
