The latest report from the National Emergency System (Sinae) indicates that 409 places in evacuation centers were occupied on the fifth night of the operation.
The Ministry of Social Development (Mides) provided shelter assistance to a total of 2,050 people (1,316 in Montevideo and 734 in the rest of the country).
In parallel, 14 recruitment teams are touring the metropolitan area looking for homeless people to transfer them to shelters.
Five cases of “mandatory evacuation” were recorded, according to the Sinae report.
“As part of the evaluation and adjustment of the operation, it was decided that the teams deployed in the field would begin the process of recruiting homeless people earlier, in order to expedite their transfer to shelters and make the operation more effective,” the statement said.
Vaccination and identity document processing services for undocumented homeless people have begun in evacuation centers.
It was also announced that the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries will vaccinate pets accompanying evacuees.
The contingency plan will continue at least until Tuesday, while the country is under the effects of a polar cold wave, and very low temperatures while strong winds are expected on Monday and Tuesday.
