“This decision is a cruel, irresponsible and dangerous one that threatens the safety of more than half a million Haitian nationals living in the United States, some of them since 2010, forcing them to return to a country in deep crisis,” a statement stressed.
It is a politically motivated injustice that blatantly ignores the terrible living conditions in Haiti, one of the directors of the aforementioned movement, Paul Christian, said.
He argued that Haiti is currently in the midst of a catastrophic humanitarian crisis, marked by widespread gang violence, political instability, hunger and the total collapse of public services.
“To send people back in these circumstances is not only irresponsible, but also inhumane,” Christian was quoted as saying by Haiti Libre newspaper.
