The proposal, with 253 articles, includes state funding, private sponsorship and strengthening of provincial academies.
Magda Damian, Deputy Provincial Director of the National Institute of Sports and Recreation (INDER), stressed that the law institutionalizes sports structures and prioritizes community recreation.
‘It is a step forward, although legal bases already existed, now consolidated into a comprehensive norm,’ he said.
Laura Marian Bacallao, member of the National Assembly, stressed that the text recognizes university sport and improves the training of referees. ‘It reflects constitutional principles and Fidel’s vision of sport as a right of the people,’ he stressed.
The bill, which was submitted to popular consultation, received 96% of citizens’ opinions. Includes alternative financing mechanisms, without neglecting state support.
It also regulates advertising and sponsorship, avoiding practices that are contrary to Cuban sporting ethics.
Innovative aspects include cost-benefit analysis for new schools and talent promotion.
The Law also strengthens sports law and protection for athletes, in line with the 2019 Constitution.
