Opening this Wednesday at 23rd and 12th Street movie theater as part of the Orizzonti: Italy-Cuba event, which is being held in Havana for the fourth straight year, the event seeks to strengthen cordial ties between Cuba and sister nations through cinema.
The event opened with the film “Illusion” (L’abbaglio-2024) by Roberto Ando and was attended by the Italian ambassador to Cuba, Roberto Vellano; the organizer of Orizzonti, Antonio Urrata; and the president of the Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC for its Spanish acronym), Alexis Triana, who welcomed the guests.
During the premiere of this International Summer Festival in Cuba, the Italian diplomat gave the opening speech, highlighting the quality of the productions.
“I believe this year’s edition is characterized by many positive aspects, including the quantity and quality of the films being screened,” Vellano noted.
He highlighted Switzerland’s participation with some materials and commented that it’s not just about presenting films, but also about creating new connections.
Triana, on behalf of ICAIC, expressed his gratitude to the foreign visitors to the event: “We are pleased that so many friends are coming to Cuba and that we continue to enrich our brotherhood; I also thank Urrata and the Orizzonti team.”
He also invited them to extend this exchange to the communities and add the street initiative as part of the Summer Film Festival.
