Juba, Jul 3 (Prensa Latina) Workneh Gebeyehu, Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), is visiting South Sudan to assess progress in implementing the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in that African republic. Gebeyehu revealed on his X profile that, upon arriving in Juba, he held talks with South Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Semaya Kumba, followed by consultations with other key ministers involved in the peace process.

He stressed the crucial importance of the full and timely implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict and urged all signatory parties and stakeholders to intensify efforts toward sustainable stability.

He reaffirmed IGAD’s strong support for the people and Government of South Sudan during this crucial phase.

On March 12, the final declaration of the 43rd Extraordinary Summit of IGAD Heads of State and Government, held virtually, addressed the evolving situation in South Sudan and reaffirmed the 2018 Agreement as the cornerstone of the peace process.

The text underscored that dialogue and debate remain the only means to resolve differences.
