A note published on the Italian Foreign Ministry’s official website reports that Tajani held telephone talks the day before with the Foreign Ministers of Canada, Anita Anand; Qatar, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani; and Egypt, Badr Abdelatty, to whom he reaffirmed his country’s commitment to halting Israeli military operations against Gaza.
Following these talks, Tajani stated that “my colleagues informed me first about the actions in support of the truce that we are supporting with the allied governments of the Group of Seven (G7), and then directly about the status of the negotiations between Israel and Hamas.”
“This is a very delicate moment: for months, negotiations have continued without results, because until now the most extremist positions have prevailed,” he regretted, emphasizing that “attacks against Palestinian civilians must cease” in Gaza, where Tel Aviv’s strikes have already caused more than 55,000 deaths.
“Israeli hostages must also be released, ceasefire consolidated, and the Strip reopened to humanitarian and medical aid,” the Italian minister added, asserting that for Rome, “the possibility of an initial 60-day ceasefire is a decisive step, which cannot be ignored under any circumstances.”
