Uruguay’s President meets full agenda at BRICS Summit

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, July 7 (Prensa Latina) Uruguayan President Yamandu Orsi continues taking part in BRICS summit, while also holding bilateral meetings with other leaders from the global south.

Orsi is participating in the plenary session “Environment, COP-30, and Global Health” and is attending the summit at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, host of the forum, which also includes Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Iran.

The Uruguayan president attended the debate on strengthening multilateralism, economic and financial issues, and the development of artificial intelligence the day before.

During his speech, he characterized the international context marked by strong tensions and uncertainty, the failure to observe the fundamental principles of international law, and a questioning of multilateralism.

Orsi said his country defends multilateralism, as an “ethical and normative imperative” and also a practical necessity in an increasingly interdependent world.

He considered it essential to have a rules-based system to strengthen economic ties that favor the growth of all countries.

Regarding artificial intelligence, he stated that Uruguay seeks to implement a public policy approach to help guide those responsible for its management, ensuring that innovative potential is maximized, with protection of intellectual property and other rights.
