Duma calls for condemnation of US military presence near Venezuela

Moscow, Nov 10 (Prensa Latina) Russia's State Duma (Lower House of Parliament) called on parliaments around the world to condemn the increased US military presence off the coast of Venezuela.

A draft declaration published on the State Duma’s official website this Monday noted that the legislative body calls on the parliaments of all countries, international parliamentary organizations, and the international community to condemn the US military presence in the southern Caribbean Sea, near Venezuela.

The initiative underscored that, under the pretext of fighting drug cartels, Washington’s acts of provocation and aggression against Venezuela are contrary to the international law enshrined in the United Nations Charter and could lead to a dangerous escalation of tensions in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Russian lawmakers urge the United States, in the draft declaration, to refrain from escalation and contribute to finding solutions to the problem of cross-border crime and drug trafficking through dialogue and cooperation among nations, and comply with honor the international agreements.

Russian legislators emphasize that the international community must immediately condemn the threats of the use of force against Venezuela and advocate for maintaining Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace, stability, and cooperation.
