The French Presidency framed the meeting within the context of continued recognition of the Palestinian State, announced by Macron at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in September.

It also linked Tuesday’s meeting to the ongoing works to implement the “peace and security plan for all in the Middle East,” a US-led initiative that ended the war between Israel and Hamas, a conflict that devastated the besieged Gaza Strip and plunged it into an unprecedented humanitarian crisis.

The Elysee Palace noted that Macron and Abbas will discuss the next stages of the agreement, particularly those related to security, governance, and the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip with international support.

France, through its leader, advocates for the two-state solution and the role of the PNA in the governance of Gaza, the Hamas-controlled enclave, whose disarmament and exclusion from political life are demanded by Washington and Paris.

The two leaders will discuss the reform of the PNA, “an essential condition for the return of stability and the emergence of a viable, democratic, and sovereign Palestinian State.”
