Vietnam takes key step in fight against corruption and fraud

Hanoi, Jan 6 (Prensa Latina) The prosecution of a case related to the management of more than 238 hectares of land at Vietnam's former Nha Trang airport is being hailed as a key step in the fight against corruption and fraud.

The assessment was made by the VNA news agency, which reported on the start of the trial at the Military Court of Zone 5 against former Phuc Son Group chairman Nguyen Van Hau and former officials from Khanh Hoa province and the Ministry of Defense for violating land transfer regulations.

Also appearing as defendants are former Khanh Hoa People’s Committee chairman Nguyen Chien Thang and Le Duc Vinh, former head of the Ministry of Defense’s Operations Department Hoang Viet Quang, and former rector of the Air Force Officers’ School Nguyen Duy Cuong.

The source detailed that the case involves the management of more than 238 hectares of land located in a strategic area next to the beach and belonging to the former Nha Trang airport, which were under the administration of the Air Force Officers’ School.

According to the indictment, between 2015 and 2024, the defendants transferred land to the Phuc Son Group without the Prime Minister’s authorization and without following established legal procedures, causing serious harm to the interests of the State.

Even without government approval, Van Hau allowed the project to be promoted as if it already had all the necessary legal permits, and through this maneuver, the group signed 983 land use rights transfer agreements with 683 individuals and raised more than $267 million, according to the current exchange rate.

This case, the prosecution stated, is especially serious due to the involvement of high-ranking public officials who failed to fulfill their legal responsibilities, allowing Van Hau and his accomplices to carry out these illegal activities and misappropriate citizens’ property.
