Trump’s measure against Cuba calls forth international rejection

Havana, Feb 2 (Prensa Latina) A broad wave of international rejection continues against the executive order issued by US President Donald Trump, which imposes tariffs on countries that supply oil to Cuba, a measure described as genocidal by several organizations and prominent figures.

The Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP) condemned the measure and pointed out that it uses “false pretexts” to intensify the suffering of the Cuban people, seeking “to achieve the objective of its policy toward the Island.”

From the United States, the Communist Party denounced the policy as “an act of imperialist blackmail,” and the Democratic Socialists of America affirmed that the order “is not a national security measure, but a form of economic terrorism.”

US Democratic Representative Rashida Tlaib described the measure as “an act of extreme cruelty” and declared: “This executive order will kill countless innocent Cubans.”

Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez denounced this policy as “equivalent to an economic war designed to cause hunger and suffering.”

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum affirmed that her government is exploring “all diplomatic ways to send fuel to the Cuban people,” and the National Regeneration Movement (MORENA) party ratified its commitment to maintaining its trade agreements with the island.

The Sao Paulo Forum expressed its “strong rejection” of the Trump administration’s actions and denounced the attempt to “revive the Monroe Doctrine.”

The Communist Party of Brazil described the measure as “economic genocide.”

Former Colombian President Ernesto Samper compared the operation to “the police boot that killed George Floyd.”

The Communist Party of Norway expressed its “full solidarity” with Cuba and condemned “the cruel and illegal act of collective punishment.”

The American Association of Jurists (AAJ) underscored that the order “violates international law” and demanded an end to the economic blockade and the return of the territory illegally occupied by the US naval base in Guantanamo.

In this context of widespread international condemnation, the Cuban Foreign Ministry (MINREX) reaffirmed the island’s willingness to “revive and expand bilateral cooperation with the United States to confront shared transnational threats, without ever renouncing the defense of its sovereignty and independence.”
