“I would like to reiterate our firm support for all our joint efforts to guarantee the sovereignty and security of our two countries, their socioeconomic prosperity, and their right to choose their development path,” the Russian head of State told his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, during their customary videoconference early this year.
Putin said, “The comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction between Moscow and Beijing are exemplary.”
In this context, the president noted that 2026 marks the 25th anniversary of the Treaty of Good Neighborliness, Friendship, and Cooperation between the two nations, a fundamental document for bilateral relations.
The Russian leader added that the implementation responds to the fundamental interests of the peoples of both countries, contributes to strengthening comprehensive global interaction between Russia and China, and improves the well-being of citizens.
Putin expressed the willingness to maintain the strategic partnership with Beijing, as he believes the two nations play a key role in several international organizations.
During the conversation, the Russian president separately praised “the solid practical outcomes of China’s presidency in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, held in Tianjin,” from August 31 to September 1, 2025.
