“Some 252 roadblocks were registered in 20 states; approximately 90 percent of the roadblocks (229) had been deactivated until 20:00 hours (local time), only 23 roadblocks remaining active and four partial closures,” the federal agency announced in a statement last night.
The Army conducted an operation in Tapalpa, Jalisco, to capture Nemesio Oseguera, nicknamed “El Mencho,” leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), who was seriously wounded and died during his transfer by air to Mexico City.
The death of “El Mencho,” one of the most wanted drug traffickers in Mexico and the United States, sparked a reaction from organized crime, including roadblocks, vehicle fires, and attacks on gas stations and other businesses in several regions of the country.
The Security Cabinet stated that Jalisco reported 65 blockades, primarily on federal and state highways, as well as on strategic urban roads.
Meanwhile, Aguascalientes, Baja California, Chiapas, Colima, State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Michoacan, Nayarit, Nuevo Leon, Oaxaca, Puebla, Quintana Roo, Sinaloa, Tabasco, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, and Zacatecas reported localized incidents and isolated blockades.
