Angola urges moderation and dialogue in Middle East conflict

Luanda, March 2 (Prensa Latina) The Angolan government urged a reduction in tensions, the exercise of maximum restraint, and the prioritization of talks through diplomatic channels to resolve the conflict in the Middle East.

In a statement released by the Presidency, the country expressed its deep solidarity with the people and victims affected by the “serious escalation” of recent days, a situation the government is following with “extreme concern.”

The statement referred to the attacks in Iran and the subsequent reprisals in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, and the Sultanate of Oman, without mentioning the involvement of the United States and Israel.

“Given the serious events that threaten stability in the region, with detrimental effects on world peace, the Republic of Angola underscores the urgent need to reduce tensions and fully respect international law, in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations,” the statement said.

He also called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and prioritize dialogue through diplomatic channels, “striving to achieve an immediate cessation of hostilities and thus restore regional peace and stability.”

Angola announced the start of the evacuation of its citizens in light of the escalating tensions in the Middle East, with the first group of nine Angolan citizens, including non-essential personnel and their families, leaving Israeli territory on the night of February 27.
